Shaadi Biodata Format for Marriage

A complete example you can copy, and what families actually look for

A marriage biodata is one page that a family reads in about thirty seconds before deciding whether to take the conversation further. It is not a resume. Nobody is grading your achievements — they are checking whether the basics fit, and whether the page feels honest.

What a biodata must contain

SectionWhat goes in it
Personal detailsName, date of birth, time and place of birth (if kundli matching matters to your family), height, complexion if you wish, marital status, mother tongue
Religion & communityReligion, caste or community, gotra, rashi and nakshatra where relevant
EducationHighest qualification first, with the institution. One or two lines is enough.
OccupationJob title, organisation, and city. Income is optional — include it only if your family expects it.
Family backgroundFather's and mother's occupation, siblings and their status (married / studying / working), native place
Partner preferencesTwo or three genuine expectations. Not a checklist.

Six mistakes that get a biodata ignored

Hindi or English?

Write it in the language the receiving family reads comfortably. For most families in North and Central India, Hindi feels warmer and gets read more carefully. If the match is being explored through a metro-based relative or a matrimonial site, English is safer. If you are unsure, Hindi with English for the education and job lines is a common and perfectly acceptable middle ground.
